Vehicle Buck Creation
An integral part of vehicle design is package design. This consists of determining the spatial environment of the occupant and the overall interior and exterior dimensions all while meeting the specified engineering requirements, this is where the value of a buck comes into play. Vehicle bucks are physical representations of the interior or exterior used for a variety of applications such as gap analysis or ergonomics studies, assessing ingress and egress, visual field, and habitability depending on the stage of the vehicle development program.
Often, there will be a separate interior buck developed for each trim level. Vehicle Bucks in the early stages of development will be much rougher, less detailed, and quicker to manufacture than those toward the end stages of development which most often have more detailed information, paint, textures, leather-wrapping, decals and so on. Vehicle bucks can also serve as Aero models for wind tunnel testing or as shaker bucks developed to identify the durability of components or assemblies.
